Our story
Velvet & Letters started in May 2019 with one phone, one MetroCard, and a simple belief: the most electric stories in the world happen on the streets, stages, and red carpets of New York — and somebody from the neighborhood should be the one to tell them.
Our founder, Albert Garry, grew up on Queens gist: barbershop debates, bodega radio, block parties that turned into legends by Monday morning. When celebrity culture moved online, he started writing it down — first as late-night posts after long shifts, then as a nightly ritual readers began to wait for. What began as one person chasing the city's heartbeat became a micro newsroom with the same rule it has always had: never boring, never fake, never late to the gist.
Seven years on, we still run lean on purpose. No bloated desks, no recycled press releases dressed up as exclusives — just sharp eyes, honest labeling, and a newsroom that treats a Queens sidewalk premiere with the same seriousness as the Met Gala steps. If it moves the culture, we cover it. If we get something wrong, we correct it in the open, the way neighbors do.

We are an independent newsroom covering celebrity news, entertainment gossip, and pop culture. We do not invent credentials, awards, newsroom headcount, or office locations.
